The Challenge
AAK wanted to expand its sustainable specialty fats and oils portfolio without relying on new cropland or extractive supply chains. Existing enzyme toolkits couldn't deliver the selectivity and yield the business case required.
Our Solution
Arzeda entered a joint development agreement with AAK to engineer novel enzymes and pathways for targeted lipid transformations. The designer enzymes improve efficiency and sustainability across specialty fats used in food applications.
Results
The collaboration has doubled North American production capacity for specialty ingredients and opened a pipeline of next-generation oils.
